65 C10 Ididit Column Questons

Getting some upper bearing noise and the truck is 48 after all. Now I have the T5 I have an excuse to replace the original column (factory 65 manual steering) and am lookin at the Ididit paintable version.

Given that I rebuild my rag joint can I shorten the 1965 shaft and couple it to the Ididit column?

I was thinkin the rag joint and a steering wheel adapter + harness adapter might be all I need rather than another $200+ for the whole install kit.

Anybody installed one of these to a factory steering box by simply shortening the intermediate shaft?

Photos?

Thanks in advance.

Sharps------I think the stock shaft is to short? plus the ididit column will either be splined or DD (double D) on the end. so you would need a u-joint from the column to what ever shaft you choose. you could do something like this------

Hmmm. That's a nice later model collapsable intermediate shaft. I heard a rumor CaptainFab makes more than a steering box plate. I'll have ta Pm him too.

when I did mine it took a joint for splined on one side and double d on the other. then a shaft like is pictured here and that was it. and a short piece of double d shaft. when I bought mine I ordered from pol--performance online and it was an ididit column. pretty cheap also. you will need the plug to plug it into your existing wire harness.

I got it now...we got one piece steering columns, round bar. Thus the impetuous to sell us the $249 intermediate kit with a $149 rag joint (original rag joint is rebuildable for under $30!) assembly in it. Hmmmm....I'll have ta think further. All new solid DD shaft kit or go scroungin for a slippy slidy intermediate shaft and build it up from there.
