305 heads on a 283???
Will it work? any benefits? anyone done this here?? One of the guys at work that lurks around this board is thinking of doing this to the 69 he just bought. Any ideas?

I have a 283 also. But my idea is to install Vortec heads.
Supposed to make close to 40 hp out the box. |

The 305 heads is a great idea, but liek mentioned, compression may be an issue.
The 305 heads will breath fine for a smaller engine like the 283/307 and they are dirt cheap. Pretty much free. Plus, they are already set up for modern fuel. |

I put a set of 60CC chamber 305 heads on my 350. I had talked with a few people that had done this and they said the boost in low end acceleration was worth it. My 72 won't be a highway runner or a drag strip truck, just a cruiser, so they will be fine for my application

The 305 heads will work great on a 283. About 9.2:1 compression with the 58cc, but the real deal for the 305 is a set of Vortec 305 heads which also have the 58cc chambers but the Vortec port design.

how about a 350 vortec heads on a 283 with four barrel carb an a mild cam anybody done this before any info im building a 283 but i want a little more hp camel hump heads too expensive thanks for any info.
