window weatherstrip tight
Just finshed installing new weatherstrip kit from LMC on my sons 1974 K20 and it is really snug. So snug the Chinese rollup handle stripped trying to roll up the window. All of the rubber is seated in the channels but it seems almost too tight for the window glass. The air temp is cold so maybe it will be better warm? Are LMC kits known for being tight?

Re: window weatherstrip tight
i wonder if the older thicker glass is an issue?
at some time the glass got thinner I noticed changing out my 78 to 87/8/9 parts

Re: window weatherstrip tight
Ive said this a thousand times if you have the thicker glass the window may not roll easy or all the way... the glass is too thick... and being that everything aftermarket is made in china youll have to change the glass or a lot of those window crank handles

Re: window weatherstrip tight
@motornut: Thanks, been here dozens of times over the years. Now that I have a project truck (my sons) I will probably be asking more.
@RustyC10: yeah I figured as much. I used to do WWII jeeps and found the same thing when parts were sold as "all years" and guess what!!! So don't mind me if I end up with questions about re-installing new glass. LOL |

Re: window weatherstrip tight
So if I go to the junk yard how much of the window assembly should I pull? Should I grab a post 1979 assembly?

Re: window weatherstrip tight
So after searching through older posts on this issue, it seems that some folks have bought the correct weatherstrips for thick window models years. It wasn't clear where they bought them. Anyone have a source and catalog number?
