No oil filter in my 235

The 235 motor that came with my 51 chevy 3100 has no oil filter. They apparently didn't use them then. Personally, I think an oil filter is an excellent invention and would like to add one to my truck. What is the best way to do this without making it look like a coffee can with toilet paper duct taped to the side of my motor?---Jack

It's a lot of work, but it's the best set up for an old straight six I've seen.

Re: No oil filter in my 235

Thanks Nick,
You're right that is alot of work but it looks like the way to go if I decide to overhaul the motor. I just got it running today so I'm not sure what I'm doing with it yet. I may drive it as is for now and overhaul in the spring. Depends on how well the motor performs.---Jack

Re: No oil filter in my 235

Or you can mount the same on your firewall or inner fender and use braided SS line.

Re: No oil filter in my 235

In the mean time you can pick up one of the regular bypass oil filters that were used on these trucks when they were new. attach it, hook up two lines and you are done. Then if and when you have the engine out and torn down for a full rebuild you can do the full pressure filter thing.

Remember, change the oil every 500 miles without or 1,000 with the paper element can.
