Help Identifying My Chassis
Have a 1956 F100 on a chevy frame, bought the truck little over a year ago, now lowering it, need to know exactly what I have to order spindles and other parts, past owner didn't know exactly what chassis it came from, looks like a C10 86 or 87 to me, it has leafs in the back, here are some photos, hopefully you guys can identify it for me, thanks Richie.
Just to add, the rotor measures 12" and is 1 1/4" thick. Here is the truck, I know I know, it's a Ford, but chevy powered Last edited by rich56; 12-09-2013 at 05:38 PM. |

Re: Help Identifying My Chassis
Cant tell from picks but if the front crossmember where the proportioning valve is, the rear most crossmember, and the crossmember between the leaf spring hangers are all solid, its a 73-80. If all said crossmembers have cutouts it is an 81-87. If the e-brake cables on the rear axle both run to the left frame rail its an 84-87. You could remove the bed and decode the vin on the top of the right side frame rail between the front bed mount holes. Also check for a vin on top of the left frame rail in front of the engine.

Re: Help Identifying My Chassis

Re: Help Identifying My Chassis
Thanks everyone, so I assume this is a C10 chassis, so just say late 80s C10 when ordering spindles, ball joints, etc., they all should fit and doesn't have to be exact as far as year goes, all have the same front suspensions then.

Re: Help Identifying My Chassis
Correct.
Negative, your frame is 73-80 all though I bet the parts you will need are all classified as 73-87 C10.

Re: Help Identifying My Chassis
JK, little confused as to your statement, but, if I call a parts store and ask for a drop spindle, just say it's for a 80s chevy c10.

Re: Help Identifying My Chassis
I believe the drop spindles 73-87 just ask what size rotor it has.

Re: Help Identifying My Chassis
Your frame was built somewhere between 1973 to 1980. It is not a 1981 to 1987 frame. I havent checked but I believe all the front end parts were the same from 73-87. I think all rotors from 73-80 are 1.25in thick. When you buy parts for your frame/chassis, buy parts for a c10 between 1973 to 1980 just to be safe.

Re: Help Identifying My Chassis
Negative, those have screw in crossshaft bushings on the control arms IIRC.

Re: Help Identifying My Chassis
Negative. JB1 and JB3 rotors were 1".
(I happen to have the brake system release charts for '74 and for '87: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=510519) Shouldn't be a big deal, though. K

Re: Help Identifying My Chassis
Next question, can someone tell me the correct replacement springs for this chassis or part number for aftermarket, came up with Boog springs number 6102, that has a ride height of 10", don't know what the original ride height would have been.
Thank You. |

Re: Help Identifying My Chassis
Bump, ordered lowering arms, now want new springs, anyone know the difference between Moog 6102 and 6082 springs?
Or, what would be the replacement springs for this chassis, Thank You. |

Re: Help Identifying My Chassis
Update, spoke with the tech guy at Moog, he explained how both springs work according to their load rates, both should give me the same height, the 6082s will give me the better ride, softer spring, not going off roading or loading this truck up anytime soon.
Thanks again for all the help so far, will post photos when done and let u all know how the lowering went with what I purchased. |

Re: Help Identifying My Chassis
If it's a square body frame then look for a 9 digit code on the frame. Should be somewhere on the section behind the cab, driver's side if I remember correctly.
Decode 1st digit 1 = US 2 = CANADA 2nd digit is the year e.g. 3=73, 9=79, A=80, D=83 etc. 3rd digit is a check digit 4th through 9 is build sequence |

Re: Help Identifying My Chassis
Interesting, I've never seen a Ford truck on a Chevrolet frame. Usually seems the later model trucks are a little wide in the front for a transplant to an older body, but yours looks good. Post some more pictures outside the truck?
