Question about seat belts.

Hey Gang

I have a 72 CST with a single-wall top. On both sides there seem to be threaded holes that look like attach points for shoulder belts.

Am I just hoping beyond hope?

I believe that is what they are for, but I have never seen them used. If you install shoulder belts, you cannot remove the top, or you'll have to install different seat belts when the top is off. It is also questionable about how wise it is to bolt belts into a top that would crumble in a roll over.

I have pickup-style shoulder belts bolted into those that match my saddle interior so yes you can use those threaded holes for this purpose. I don't expect these to help much in the event of a serious collision though and they are a PITA in comparison to retractable shoulder belts. I like the look though.

There may be threaded holes there, but you might as well use duct tape to attach your shoulder belts. There's absolutely no structure to give you any protection.

There are a couple of solutions to the shoulder belt problem. The first is to mount them to a roll bar. The second would be a more modern seat with integrated shoulder belts. Either solution calls for some reinforcement in the mounting areas.

Seats w/ integrated belts is the way to go here IMO. That's the route I went. As truckster said, you do need to reinforce the floor where the seat mounts to ensure the seat doesn't tear out in the event of a collision.

Thanks for the responses everyone. Looks like the holes in the single-wall top will remain just empty holes. I'll be mounting the shoulder belts to the rollbar.

I have the holes in my single wall top as well. They look stock and I have heard they do exist. Perhaps gm reinforced the top for the seat belt?
