What can you do to quiet the whine in the transfer case? Is there an additive?

It would be helpful to know more about your truck. My NP205 had a whine caused from a bad bearing. If you have a rockwell, it might be considered normal.

Welcome to the board!

The best place to start is with the correct oil level and type/weight. If you don't have the service manual there are links to workable copies in my signature. Also use a dino based oil vs a synthetic to keep it quieter.
Of course if there is wear or damage, repairs will be required to correct it.
Finally if we have to guess what year and type t-case you are having a problem with, then our answers are going to be generalized. From the factory there are three different t-cases between 67-72 covering pickups, blazers and suburban/panels.

Can you get us a picture of the T-case?
Manual transmission?

Pre 1970 trucks predominantly came with a Rockwell T-221 transfer case, and this transfer case is a notoriously stout but noisy transfer case due the gear angle design and all gear driven.

The next model that is popular in these trucks is the NP-205 transfer case, which also is a stout and highly sought after transfer case. The NP-205 does not have the same gear whine as the Rockwell T-221.

Sorry about that, it's a 1967 k10 with a 283ci. I'm not at shop now. Ill check tomorrow. Thought it was a common problem with all transfercases of these years. I just bought it a couple months ago. It's all original. It has the option of the large back window. Which is kind of rare I think.. All numbers match( thanks to this Web site I could look it up) still trying to find out paint codes. The exterior is red and inside cab is silver was ths common?
I'm also new to this web sight. (THE COOLIST THING I FOUND) still trying to Maneuver my way around (web site) and find the answers I'm looking for but not to difficult. So much great info!

If you have locking hubs make sure the transfer case is 2 Hi.

It is a Rockwell t-221 transfer case. With a manual trans.

Wow! That is probably one of my first threads I've posted here.

An update to that... It now is easy to shift in and out of gear, after the shifter springs were replaced with a smaller set.
