Hidden Receiver hitch

Got a new project I am about to work on and thought I'd share. I plan on keeping my receiver hitch but I don't want it to be hanging below my bumper. I plan on relocating it so that it is centered behind my license plate bracket. Here is a sketch I did.

Thats been done a couple times. Lol get a flip down license bracket from an Impala or 82-92 Camaro. There really is no need to use any plate or mount to the bumper. Mine I just cut the hole in bumper with a hole saw for hitch mount. Actually used a factory Suburban hitch fit perfect.

Yeah I thought about getting a flip down bracket like I have on my Chevelle. The LMC rear license panel I have bolts into the mounting holes on the bumper but I would need to cut a hole in it to flush mount my hitch.

Well I don't think I'll really ever need a hitch for my truck but since it already had one when I bought it I thought I'd modify it so if I ever do decide to pull something I'll have one.

I am planning to do the same thing with my truck soon. I was looking to do a flip tag, but having a receiver piece that holds the tag is actually a really good idea! Thanks for that haha

I used the flip plate holder from a Chevelle as well.

My hitch is home made.

attached are pics, some poor quality, of set up on rear bumper of my '76 Fleetside longbed. Just had truck painted so, sitting on an orange parts dolly. I am looking to swap this bumper set up locally for a good stock bumper. do not plan to do any towing. I used a flip down 80's GM license plate holder and mounted it to flip up. this way will not interfere with hitch and the plate will be visible if stopped by a Cop.

Here is the mock up of my rear plate. I used a flip bracket to hide yet provide access to my on/off switch. I used 73-87 door bumpers at the bottom to make it close nicely and not rattle.

Looks great guys. I would think someone would swap you for a stock bumper Cool68. Bigblock, where did you get your flip bracket?

Great idea, except that '82-'92 F-bodies don't have the flip down license plate frame. Those flip downs are mounted on second gen F-bodies which are '70-'81 years. The third gens (TA and 'maro) had a round fuel door on the driver's side.

I bought a hidden hitch for a 67-72 Chevy from ECE.
It fit very nice on my square CCSB.
There is a write up here that SCOTI did. He had to modify it slightly to clear the factory rivets on the rear most crossmember. My truck didn't have the rivets, I welded the said crossmember in.

The Camaros do. It flips down to access the hatch lock.

I just swapped another unit under my 89 CC dually. No interference issues w/the frame rivets this time since it's a long wheel base & the rear leafs are now gone.

I did have issues w/the later model 'inside' frame brackets interfering which required a little time w/the grinder to clearance things. After that, it bolted right in.

You're right! Something I never knew because all of my 3rd gens have been Trans Ams! The TA's have the key hole right in the middle of the taillights and the plate in the bumper with no flip down.
