Re: The question needs to be answered
The bed type is not coded in the VIN. It would be on the SPID as either RPO E62 (stepside) or E63 (fleetside).
Here's a link to the free generic information packet from the GM Heritage Center archive: http://www.gmheritagecenter.com/gm-h...tion-kits.html Find Chevy trucks and click on the one for your model year. This will show you all the generic options and content that were available for that particular model year. Depending on how desperate you are, you can also send them $50 and your VIN and they will send you the vehicle invoice specific to your truck, including your original options and pricing (which will include the type of bed originally installed at the factory). Invoice: http://www.gmmediaarchive.com/?page=3 K

Re: The question needs to be answered
That's the glove box label (Service Part IDentification Label).

Re: The question needs to be answered
you can get the code to see what kind of bed was on there when it left the factory and the codes to determine whether someone added or removed dual tanks but other than taking apart the complete bed and looking for GM stamps on the panels themselves there is no way to tell if the bed is an original bed and unless you personally know the truck from the date of delivery until now you will never be able to tell if the truck had the bed replaced with OEM panels if there was an accident or something
