Whats wrong with my truck?

Hey guys, i got in my truck tonight after work and started it. The choke usually kicks down after about 5-10 minutes of running. Tonight it took a very long time to kick down. Much longer than usual. This is weird because it's been warm for January these last couple days in New York. So i leave the parking lot to go home and its running normal. In town i went 30-35mph and it was running as it should. I then got to the outskirts of town about 3 miles away from my house and start to go uphill and all of a sudden it feels like my truck is about to die. It will shift into OD but it feels like its barely shifting. When it shifts into OD it sounds like its not firing on all cylinders. I barely made it home, i went about 10-15 the rest of the 3 miles. So what do you think it is? Im guessing the transmission is shot, but i dont think that explains why it wouldnt kick down. I have not had the chance to look at it yet because i just got home. My truck is an 85 k10 305/700r4. Thanks for your help guys.

Start with basics and check tranny fluid. Where are you in NY?

Ilion, NY. I'm 17 and have never really messed with transmissions much and i dont know much about them so please bare with me. I will check the fluid first, if its low and i refill it will it be back to normal or is it likely that i fried it?

Re: Whats wrong with my truck?

Turned out that it was not a transmission problem. The past few days the snow has melted here because of the warm weather causing some big puddles and just a lot of damp weather in general. I must have ran through a pretty good sized puddle without even thinking anything of it. The water soaked the distributor and the plugs weren't giving off spark, making it run like garbage. The choke problem was just a stuck choke and that was an easy fix. Thanks for your help guys!

Re: Whats wrong with my truck?

if it seem like its missing when its under a load or going up a good hill you might have some bad plug wires and a lot of times they will act up when its wet or damp out.....had that problem once.

Re: Whats wrong with my truck?

I had a distributor that had a tiny crack in it and every time it rained car wouldn't run right.Sometimes its the smallest things that give you the biggest headache.
