Throttle linkage for a 235

The 235 in my 51 chevy 1300 was transplanted from a mystery vehicle by the previous owner. I'm guessing they never got it running well because the linkage,as it is, doesn't work right. There is one long bent rod coming from the pedal to a pivot point on the engine. From there another rod goes to the throttle lever on the carb. This other rod has a small bracket attached to it with a hole in it for the return spring. This needs to be pulled straight down to work.I attached the spring to an obvious looking spot but it didn't pull down on the spring it tended to pull it back toward the firewall and the throttle doesn't return all the way.All there is below this point to attach a spring to is the edge of the oil pan. Anybody got any ideas to help me set this up so it works?---Jack

That spring is supposed to clip on a tab that bolts to the oil pan.

Linkage should look like this

Re: Throttle linkage for a 235

That first picture will do it. Looks like they got the bent rod in upside down on my truck and I may have to bend the other one a little.Any pictures of the tab that bolts to the oil pan?Or what to call it to search for one? I imagine I can probably fabricate something that will work.Thanks.---Jack

Re: Throttle linkage for a 235

its just a short maybe 2" piece of thin metal with a 1/4 hole in one end for the pan bolt and the other is a 1/16 or so for the spring. You will need a longer bolt and a small spacer to get past the lip of the pan.
