1985 c30 TV stand I built

A few months back the time came to haul off an 85 dually parts truck my brother had, but before it went away I decided to cut the rear off and make myself a one of a kind tv stand. It was kind of a no brainer since the brown matches my furniture and I had just bought the tv that's sitting on it, but hadn't found a store bought stand that I liked.

I still would like to wire the lights to work but I just haven't put any time into figuring them out. Anyone have any suggestions? Id like to have them be on a dimmer and plug into the wall.

Let me know what ya think! Thanks!

Looks cool! Some suggestions mount it higher on the wall. Is the gate functional?

Looks great. As for the lights, gut the socket, get candlebra bases and put nightlight bulbs in them.

http://www.lowes.com/pd_40570-1811-8...rchQueryType=1

Or DIY
http://www.lowes.com/ProductDisplay?...llow&cId=PDIO1

That will take care of the tail lights. For the clearance lights you may have to get more creative. Possibly soldering low watt undercabinet or similar light bulbs in.

You could also go LED, and wire them to a low voltage wall wart transformer, that would be the route I would go.

Re: 1985 c30 TV stand I built

Thanks everyone! and GCncsuHD that's kinda what I had in mind also. Id almost like to just get a 110 convertor of some sort and just wire the factory style lights to it. I'm not an electrician by any means (know just enough to get myself into trouble) so whatever I do will need to be pretty foolproof.

Also, the tailgate is not functional. With it being as narrow as it is, it was somewhat unstable with it open and I would've been pissed had someone opened it and dumped my tv. I would've liked for it to be tho, bc its pretty heavy to move and that would've made it easy to access my wall plug plus storage for movies or stuff

You could have kept the tailgate functional and bolted the deal to the wall to keep it stable.

As I mentioned, you could just use a 12v wall wart transformer, then use LED bulbs to keep the wattage low and just plug it up.

I like it I REALLY like it... id like to modify your idea and have it a little deeper so that the tailgate can fold down revealing a bar THAT would be killer in the man cave!

Re: 1985 c30 TV stand I built

Thanks guys.. I was hesitant to show my idea, but I'm glad everyone likes it! I made a park bench out of one a couple years ago. it was a long bed step side 73 (who knew they had such a cult following) that was a pretty nice truck but it was only bought for the engine and trans. It turned out pretty cool also, I just haven't finished it. I like its patina it has tho

That is awesome but I'd rather have the tailgate for my truck

Re: 1985 c30 TV stand I built

Great idea.

For the lights just use Christmas lights. The larger C7/C9 (often used for village houses) for the brake lights and the regular miniature for the marker lights.

You could even use a wireless remote on/off like people use for Christmas lights as well.....all 110v.

Re: 1985 c30 TV stand I built

That is really cool!! If you could secure the bed to the wall better so you could drop the tailgate, you could use that space for storage (like a cabinet). Somewhere to put dvd's, cd's, etc...

Nice tv stand!
There've been a few people making benches from tailgates for a while now. www.originaltailgatebench.com, for instance.
