New project for a customer

Our shop was just contracted to build an "automotive" sales counter. Now with us being a pickup restoration shop, what better to use than what we have. So after digging thru the scrap, I found two front fenders with horrible rear rust, a hood that had folded at the hinges and a few other miscellaneous pieces. Put them together, did some trimming and came up with this design. There will be a counter top across the top of the fenders. we'll put some black out panels vertically behind the wheel openings and close off the back of the grille opening. Adding low wattage LED lighting in new park lamps and headlamps. Installing a new chrome grille and front bumper with bumper guards and painting it bright read and correct grille surround white/black. Will add more pics as we proceed. Just started this on Wednesday, the 22nd, mocked up, then sent out to media blast yesterday. Picked up today and started rust repair/bodywork. Monday I'll build the framework/stand. Should be in paint by end of the week.

And it's unique too! It's a GMC hood countertop! Not like all those other common Chevy hood countertops that you see just about everywhere. LOL!

Re: New project for a customer

We're working on a few different ideas, now too. The Mrs is excited about this and making plans for others. Also doing a dash wall hanging that will have a working radio/speakers.

* Disclaimer: No actual trucks were harmed in the making of these products. We have found a way to keep some parts alive that hadn't or couldn't be used to save another truck. LOL!

Re: New project for a customer

Here's a couple updates from Monday and Tuesday's work. Got the stand made and the "body" fitted to it. Have a couple more braces to add for the shelving, then we will fit the side panels around the stand. Going to mock up the electrical today. Since this is going to be a sales counter, we are pre-wiring it for a computer terminal with power strip, the voltage reducer for the LED lighting, and counter top lighting.
Have had to make a few adjustments and alterations to the original design, since going from paper to actual working piece isn't always a smooth transition. Still very happy with it so far. Should be in the paint booth by the weekend. The stand heads out to powdercoat tomorrow.

Re: New project for a customer

When I first saw the picture of it, I thought it was going to be a BBQ.....but the counter idea is really cool. Takes a lot of thought and a lot of work but I bet it will look great when you are finished.......Kieth

Re: New project for a customer

As someone stated above, this would make a really nice bar or beverage counter in a "man cave" type environment (hate that word). Maybe an auto museum or other auto related hangout.

You might have a new side business on your hands.....

We're kind of hoping so, LOL. We have orders already for two more of these, one with a '65 Ford front end, and a BBQ.
Already altered the original by making the legs fully adjustable so can be a desk at 30" high, or a bar at 42", or 2 options in between at 34 and 38.

She's been busy figuring out what we can make out of any extra part we have, LOL!
