1953 Chevy 3100/1420
Hi guys, I was wondering if you all could give a little info on this truck. It's a 1953 Chevrolet 1420 (Canadian version of the 3100). It's 8 bolt rims, and want to keep it that way. I was wondering what the bolt pattern matches, and if there's any disc brake rotor kits for such a beast. We are updating very little on this truck, except for brakes, a few suspension mods for comfort, and a more smooth running engine.
I have looked up a few brake kits, but haven't had much luck finding rotors off the shelf. I can make brackets for calipers, with my friends machine shop, but would rather buy a kit. Remembering we don't want to lose the 8 bolt look or setup. Also if there's any rack and pinion kits, would be great. Again leafs will be retained for the look, since it's a request of the family. Thanks for your help guys, in advance. Dougy. PS, I have fabbed up lots of other vehicles over the years. This one is for a family friend, and the first '53 I have done. The only real kicker is this is my first old Chev pickup ( done 68-up lots). |

Since you have 8 lug wheels, I'm guessing you actually have a 3600/3800 style truck.
You're out of luck on disc brakes though. Nobody makes 'em. There's been a few guys out there that have done their own kit and some guys like myself working on making something. Here's a link. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=586788 |
