16" Wheels
My truck came from the factory with 16" wheels. I want to keep that size if possible, but I'm afraid that I may need to replace one or two of them and was wondering how hard they would be to find. I hear that it's a rare wheel size and I want to start looking now if it may take a while to find. Does anyone else have stock 16" wheels?
Also, I heard that my in dash ash tray is worth more than the whole truck, not surprising considering the condition of the exterior. Is there any truth to this claim? |

Re: 16" Wheels
My '62 came with 16" -6 lug rims with the 3 clip hub cap retainers. Had to replace two of them, one was too bent & I was missing a spare. I was able to find two very good matching replacements on Ebay a few years back, think I paid $35 ea. Not sure how hard they are to find these days.
As for the ash tray, not sure what would make it so valuable? I may be mistaken, but every '60-'66 truck I have seen had an in dash ash tray, mine has one. Only difference I have seen is in the ash tray pull, some have the word "ash tray" stamped into the pull like mine does, others are blank. There will be ash tray variations based on the differences between the Chevy & GMC dash layouts and the change in the Chevy dash from the '60-'63 to '64-'66. Some factory AC trucks I have seen have an under dash mount ash tray because the Ac vents are located where the ash tray would normally be. Unless you have some special style ash tray? Can you post a photo of your ash tray for us to see & compare? |

Re: 16" Wheels
the under dash ashtry is the rare bird. on factory A/C setups: the air comes out where the in dash ashtray is. at least on 64-66 models.

Re: 16" Wheels
Is your truck a chevy or gmc??? I don't recall 16 inch wheels as an option for C-10 chevys, but I think they were on the gmc's.

Re: 16" Wheels
I can't speak for US built trucks, but my Canadian built '62 Chevy C-10 came with 16" wheels. I also just checked my Canadian C-10 options catalog GM Canada sent me with my Vin# search info and found that 15", 16", & 17.5" wheels were offered for tubeless tires & 15" & 16" offered for tubed tires.
