what are yal doing for a tempo sensor tring to get stock guages hooke dup till i get the money for dokota digital guages i'd like to not have to drill the head on teh passager side as the engine is in the truck already.

You wont run the stock guage,without drilling to fit? I opted for an Auto meter 90 sweep elct guage & the adaptor /sensor to fit the app. longhorn

There is an adapter/sender setup I and many others have used. Do a search on my posts and you'll find it.
No drilling, both the adapter and sender are auto meter parts.

I drilled and tapped my water pump and put the sensor there.

My opinion, does not really make a diff on your truck....but I will lay my thoughts down? Think about what you are playing, also where you want to go

Get your 'ducks in a row", for where you want to be....you shure dont want to play it, 2 or 3 times over? Longhorn

Mine is installed on the back passenger side of the block. I had a long senor and a short bushing that was right for the block threads.You can see the brass in the top of the picture.Reading is a little higher than the computer but thats OK, It reads around 200 with a 165 thermastat. The computer stay at around 175.

i agree with that but my issuse is i just bought a house and yes my swap is running i'm just trying to get the stock gauges to work till i can save up the 800 dollars for the Dakota digital gauges i want

My suggestion will cost about $20 and is way easier than drilling and tapping a head with the motor in the truck.

grab yourself a 3 wire ls1 temp sensor, two of the outputs go to the ls pcm and the third output goes to your factory temp gauge, very simple no drilling and tapping, replaces the sensor on the drivers side head. You will need the pigtail for it though and its the same as the TPS sensor plug.

that really works??? Not questioning you just didn't know there was something like this out there. I did the same thing Andy4639 did but mine reads lower than my ScanGauge II. Man I wish I would have known this!!

GM part #12551708 for 98 Camaro but I think this one goes in the head??

My temp gauge is from Speed hut for the temperature gauge I got from them so it's not the stock gauge. But there are fittings that will work. I have also seen the 3 wire ls pigtail.

I don't think the 98 F body 3 wire sender will work properly with the factory 67-72 gauge. It may move the needle but won't be accurate. Same goes for the autometer sender, although its closer. Somewhere on here I have a picture of a factory gauge hooked up to the autometer sender and a Tech2. At 195 a factory 67-72 gauge is right in the middle, but with the autometer sender its closer to the 1/4 mark. That said, I'm not sure how accurate a factory 40 year old gauge is anyway.

Totally understand, while my house is finally "owned', it is still eating money in repairs

I used the Autometer kit, listed @ the bottom of the page, & also had read that the sensor will work with the stock guage, but maybe not be right on for the read? If you test the temp, & know that the 195 spot is around 1/4 guage, or so....then you know where it is (should work for a temp solution)

Hi David, I drilled the face of the water pump and installed the stock sender. ls runs hotter than 1968 standards, gauge read about 3/4th scale. Installed a variable resistor potentiometer in-line and dialed the gauge down to read colder to the 1/2 scale i was looking for. If memory serves me correctly it was a 4 ohm 1/2 watt resistor. I shined up the sender brass terminal for good connections and consistency. Works spot on every time. Pulling the airstream in hot weather it runs about 5/8th scale, equal to about 208 degrees F.
