OK so the tune is done. I need to know if I can get the transmission temperature reading from the 4l80e wiring are not. I would like to have it on the Scan gauge if possible. I have the code for it entered and the gauge set but it has no reading. This is for a 2003 2500HD 6.0.

According to Scan Gauge they swapped codes for everything in 2003.
I have tried both sets of codes but no good.
Bruce said without a Vin number for the vehicle there is noway to know.

Trans should have a sensor in it already.

I'm not positive how it works. I know it can throw over-temp codes, and HPT can read the info.

We've installed a trans temp gauge before on a diesel truck with the 80e....there are unused bungs on the side of the case which are for testing pressure or something. You can use the 1/8" hole to connect the sender for Autometer-type gauges.

Yes I have read there is a test port right above the gear selector on drivers side. I have also herd that the transmission should have the temp senor in it. Bruce said he was going to findout more for me but I was wanting to see if I could find anything. I figured the experts here would know more about it. I'm going to go by the transmission shop one day next week and findout what they have to say about it.

From what I have found this morning googling it should have a senor in it. I have to figure out how to get the info now and if it was turned off when they did the wiring and reflash.

I looked in the tune for a 2500 HD with a 4L80 but didn't see anything that addressed the temp in the tranny. I know my 6L80 has all those features and I can see the temp on my DD VHX gauges as well as my scanner. If you guys figure something out, let me know and I will check again.

Edit: Ask Clinbarger, he's the resident tranny expert!

My Aeroforce Interceptor will display trans temp.
Only "sensors" on my 4L85e are the 2 VSS?

Have you tried another year? I don't think your engine is an 03. Try 01 and see what happens? Some 2500 and up trucks have a trans temp guage so the trans may have the sensor already, but its most likely a serial data gauge, but I would think a Scangauge should read it if its there.

both my '68 with it's '09 LY6 w/4L85e... and my TBSS with '06 LS2 w/4L70e... I've been able to just plug in, set it, and pull trans temp from the diagnostic port, w/o adding/changing anything to either system.

Hi Andy, just looked up your info request on a 2003 2500hd 6.0 on alldata pro version and the trans temp thermistor info goes to pcm and is available at the instrument cluster through the class2 serial data. This serial data carries other info, volt gauge info, etc. Your posted link info showed the 2 wires related to trans temp info on a 5 volt reference line to pcm. The pcm analizes all the info needed and sends it out on serial data line. I always compared the serial data line to a phone line, transmitter, receiver and more than one person on-line processing the info. Good luck, Brian F.

On later 4L80E's the Temp Sensor is integrated into the internal harness.

Even if the sensor/wiring had an Open circuit it would read "Low" around -40. If the sensor/wiring had a Short it would read "High" around 300 degrees.

First thing I would do is hook-up a real scan tool a see what the Trans Temp reads.

Circuit Diagnostics....
Unplug the Trans connector, Key on, Check for 5 volt reference on Pin L, Check for Ground on Pin M. This will check the harness side. See Connector View.

On the Trans side, Check Resistance between Pins L & M, See resistance chart.

I sure hope I can figure it out. It would be nice knowing trans temp.
