Ididit steering column - can't get low gear

I fitted a Ididit tilt steering column in to my 64 C10 today. I'm running a TH700r column shift auto with a rod style shift linkage.

I can not get it set up so it will select all gears. If I set it up while the trans is in neutral as per the installation instructions I can't select L1 but can get all other gears.

The column I removed was a 70's chev van tilt column every thing worked with that column but it's totally worn out.

Has any one else had this issue?

Re: Ididit steering column - can't get low gear

Yes, I had the same problem when I got rid of the factory shift linkage and went to the after market rod style shift linkage too. I ended up reinstalling the factory linkage and noted the position of the linkage arm coming off the trans and measured out from the center of the shift shaft on the transmission to where the factory rod attached. I re-clocked the shift arm so it would point straight forward and adjusted the shift rod outward so everything was in the factory position and with a little fine adjustment everything now works great.
Oh, I also replaced the shift shaft seal (again) and stopped my last transmission leak.
Hope this info is of some use to you.

Re: Ididit steering column - can't get low gear

I re-used the rod style shifter linkage that was fitted to the old steering column. I had to shorten it about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch so it would fit the new column. I had another go at adjusting it tonight but still can't get L1.

I'm starting to think the shifter on the Ididit column doesn't rotate as far round as a OEM chev column.

I have no idea what the factory linkage even looks like.

Ss the new column specifically for a 700R trans? Contrary to belief, there is a difference.

My other question, would be: How often do you really need to manually shift to L1?

shorten distance from linkage to trans shaft to lenthen stroke and it will push linkage further
