Re: Richmond lockrite? Opinions
I have a Powertrax in my '48 (12 bolt car rear end) that I installed close to ten years ago. I love it but it does make some noise when it locks up after going around a corner. It's also a bit jerky when it locks back up. Make sure you don't shift going around corners or the rear usually starts sliding around trying to swap ends
I think there are new ones that are a lot smoother |

Re: Richmond lockrite? Opinions
So you had no issues except for the noise and jerky feel? Which new ones are smoother?

Re: Richmond lockrite? Opinions
Anyone else using a locker on their rear end? How difficult are they to install?

Re: Richmond lockrite? Opinions
I've put them in several trucks, some mine some for other guys. They put the power down but do make some snappin noises. As long as you keep constant power to the rear it is quiet but with a standard trans if you push the clutch in it will make noise. It doesn't bother me because I know what it is but at a cruise in where some of the guys just buy a car and have no clue you'll get some strange looks. I really like the ones I've driven. In a sharp turn on warm blacktop with power to the vehicle the inside rear tire will try to make the same number of turns as the outside causing the tire to chirp a little. As I said before the issues are small compared to the benifits and ease of installation.

Re: Richmond lockrite? Opinions
I might have to try one out. I don't know anyone with one installed to hear them. Maybe I'll check YouTube for a video. Also thought of installing a posi unit, but that is more expensive. Trying to keep the costs down.

Re: Richmond lockrite? Opinions
Probably be cheaper just to buy a posi setup for your rear or another rear rather than a lunchbox locker. Then you have no clicking.

Re: Richmond lockrite? Opinions
An Eaton Posi uses spring loaded clutch discs to tie both axles together instead of a dog clutch so it is smoother BUT, stand on it or shift when in a corner and it will still bring the rear end around. For my money that's the best of all possible worlds.
