White stuff in my oil
Is this water in my oil? I just changed the oil less than 50 miles ago.

I've never seen coolant or water in the oil turn white but maybe it does in rare occasions?

Pretty sure that that is water. Either way, water or anti-freeze, I'm pretty sure it ain't s'pose to be there.

I had the same problem x100. started having problems and started to pull the motor down. Rocker covers were filled with a thick white grease like substance. My newly purchased so called re-co'd motor had a cracked crank. cracked head, HV oil pump and standard sump, and a heap of other problems. I'm told that a sign of water in all is the oil looks cloudy. a lot of water in oil is the oil looks milky. so a TON of oil in water must mean the oil turns to thick white grease. That's been my learning curve

I'm not seeing a lot of white, is the oil itself white? Is it just built up in the valve cover? Water will turn the oil white but the oil puddled in your rockers looks fine. Could it simply be condensation?

Does the truck sit out? We are in a high humidity locations both you and I. Even though it is like 15 degrees out right now I've seen this in several motors I had on some of my "toys" that rarely get use and sit more that they go. I always have such a fit to build the darn things then I drive them a couple of times[if that] and then I am through with then like an exgirlfriend or something that I had rather not deal with any more. One more question do you have one of those open breathers that go in the valve cover? I still think it is a tiny bit of moisture not of any doing of the trucks motor but of the weather around it. Unless your running it on alcohol then if you've got 50 miles on it your way clean and over due an oil change

What does the oil it self look like if its just yhe covers it from not heing run long enough to burn off the condedtion

Aluminum valve covers and intake, my guess is aluminum oxide (aluminum's version of rust) Don't know if it is damaging or not.

looks like condensation to me, caused by short trips in cold weather not getting the engine warmed up.

Condensation. Start letting your engine get up to temp before going anywhere on cold days. Gives the moisture a chance to cook off, and saves your bearings, the moisture will mix with the oil at idle, but if it cooks off before you put it under load, it will be ok. You can also try an oil heater at night to see if that prevents it.

Looks like condensation. Let it sit for a couple of days, pull the oil plug slowly and see if u get any water before oil, If you do you've got head or gasket problems. You can also pull the spark plugs and turn it over and see if it pumps any water out of cylinders.

I agree it could be from short trips as well. It could also be from the PCV not working/hooked up right.

Drain your oil. If you see it in there, it's water/coolant.

Dont even need to drain the oil. Check the dip stick. If it looks like oil fire it up and let it run for a few minutes. Recheck the dipstick. If there is any white swirl on the dipstick or a milkshake then you have a problem. As others have said a little moisture this time of year is normal. I have some in my motor also and it gets up to temp for several miles each day and takes me to work each week.

It has been sitting. I bought it from a guy in Idaho that I'm fairly sure left it outside. Since I have had it, it sits in my shop which remains 40 degrees or higher depending if I'm out there or not. It does have the little breathers on each valve cover, so maybe it is just condensation. When I drained the oil to change it a few days ago the oil looked normal.

Be sure to leave one of the breathers (the crankcase needs to be able to suck in clean air).

Do you warm your truck up before draining the oil when you change it? That condensation can build up over time. I'd get the truck as warm as you can,go out and run the pizz out of it,then drain oil...carefully!
