Will a 1987 gauge cluster which is TBI, be used in a 1986 non TBI C10?

Yup, 1979-up will work, course 79 will have different font, but will work. Up to 90 will work, 91 has VSS instead of cable.....

But make sure if your truck has gauge option the other cluster MUST have gauge option also....

Gauge option - volts, oil pressure and water temp.
Non Gauge option - dummy lights

Not being a stickler but '89 was last yr for cable driven speedo and VSS. '90-'91 went to electric speedos and Digital Ratio Adapter Controller (DRAC) setup.
VSS cluster no has effect on early trucks. It was for cruise & ECM signals to control the EFI or ESC. It's just a optical signal that reads off the speedo.

Hmmm... not sure. When I got the truck (86 in need of cluster) it didn't have a cluster. Is there anyway to tell?

The SPID would be a good start. Trim level as well. Good chance if it is a Silverado it had full gauges and if it was a Custom Deluxe it had idiot lights, etc.

Like Randy says…look for RPO Z53 (gauge pkg)
Doesn't really matter though. You don't really need an exact replacement. You can re-pin the plug for gauges and most of them won't even need to be swapped around.
Only wire that really needs attention is the alternator wire if truck didn't have volt gauge.

Thanks Randy and Irish for the heads up on the SPID/RPO. Unfortunately the truck in need of the cluster is far away in storage so I'll have to wait 'til next time I can get up there.

I'm not sure if the '86 that needs the cluster is a Custom Deluxe or Silverado... now I'm curious!

Good to know worst case I can repin... I'll check out the link now.
