Gauge Cluster Year Compatability
Will a 1987 gauge cluster which is TBI, be used in a 1986 non TBI C10?

Yup, 1979-up will work, course 79 will have different font, but will work. Up to 90 will work, 91 has VSS instead of cable.....

Re: Gauge Cluster Year Compatability
But make sure if your truck has gauge option the other cluster MUST have gauge option also....
Gauge option - volts, oil pressure and water temp. Non Gauge option - dummy lights

VSS cluster no has effect on early trucks. It was for cruise & ECM signals to control the EFI or ESC. It's just a optical signal that reads off the speedo. Last edited by Irish1941; 03-18-2014 at 03:55 PM. |

Hmmm... not sure. When I got the truck (86 in need of cluster) it didn't have a cluster. Is there anyway to tell?

Re: Gauge Cluster Year Compatability
The SPID would be a good start. Trim level as well. Good chance if it is a Silverado it had full gauges and if it was a Custom Deluxe it had idiot lights, etc.

Doesn't really matter though. You don't really need an exact replacement. You can re-pin the plug for gauges and most of them won't even need to be swapped around. Only wire that really needs attention is the alternator wire if truck didn't have volt gauge. Check out this thread. Might help you out. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=491032 |

I'm not sure if the '86 that needs the cluster is a Custom Deluxe or Silverado... now I'm curious! Good to know worst case I can repin... I'll check out the link now.
