converting cargo light to 3rd brake?

My truck doesn't have the cargo light but I've heard of others installing one. I think I could buy one from lmc or somewhere.

Has anyone ever converted them to a third brake light?

I figured if I could candy the clear lens cover red, and get the right bulb in it, couldn't you just run a wire to the rear of the truck and hook it to the taillights?

It wouldn't be a cargo lamp anymore just a brake light.

Ive heard from others who have added a newer third brake lamp from a different car like a nissan...but I want it to look factory.

Any ideas? I've also read some bring it to the white wire by the pedal..

Connecting it to the white wire on the brake light switch by the pedal would be the way to go.

The lights at the back of the truck are combination brake & turn signals. Connecting to one of those wires would cause the 3rd brake light to flash along with the turn signal on the side you tapped into.

you could make a led board even and make it light up red on brakes and white on cargo.

I thought about doing this, then one day going through a junkyard I spotted an f150 with this factory set up. I had to enlarge the hole in the cab a little, but it all worked out good. I never fully finished the interior headliner modification on this when I sold the truck. The bulbs and sockets sticks out more on the inside, I was either going to make a full length overhead console, or make a cover plate for the rear of the headliner........ I wired it directly to the brake light switch at the brake pedal. David

yeah you could use that or one off a newer chevy or dodge too if you wanted to go that route. just make sure its one that lays flat and isnt contoured to the cab like my 04. it think 07 ups 88-99 are flat if you want gm.
