Speedo and Odo quit working

I need some help here. My speedometer and my odometer quit working. It was working good but when I got it back from the paint shop it's not working anymore. I climbed under the truck and checked to see if it was still hooked to the transmission and also check to make sure it was still hooked up to the dash. Everything was hooked up but it doesn't work. Any thoughts????

Unhook it at the trans, pull the cable out of the sleeve and see if it is broke in half. That's a starting point.

Do I need to unhook it from the back of the cluster first?

No, you should be able to unhook from the trans, grab the end of the cable and pull it out. If it's not broke, slide it back in, you may need to spin it a little bit to get it to slide back in the cluster.

Re: Speedo and Odo quit working

I thought you had it pull the cable out from the other end (at cluster). I didn't think you could pull it the other way.

You could unscrew the tranny connection and put the cable end on a drill. Slowly turn it and see if the speedo moves (need 2 people).

Make sure the cable connection is fully seated onto the cluster. Sometimes it doesn't get all the way pushed in.

Re: Speedo and Odo quit working

Do I need to have my dash out for this or can I remove the bezel and cluster with the dash installed?

That'll work Tim. I don't need the speedo to work to drive it around town.

Unfortunately, yes you'll have to remove the dash, instrment bezel and then cluster to get to the cable. I'd first try just disconnecting from tranny and spinning it. That's a 3 minute job. Going into the dash....probably an hour job (I've done it several times!!)

Re: Speedo and Odo quit working

I'll unhook it and spin the cable. Luckily I already have the bezel and dash out of the truck but was planning on putting it in this evening. Looks like I better leave it out.

Got the cable replaced today. Cost me $ 6.99 and took about 3 minutes to replace it. Thanks for your help guys.
