brake pedal hard to push.
So I just picked up a 68 Chevy and one of the many items to fix in order to get it road worthy is the brakes. The pedal is hard to push and it barely stops. Any suggestions on where to start? Do you guys think it might be the booster?

Re: brake pedal hard to push.
Welcome to the forum! Does your power brake booster hiss when you press on the brake pedal? If so, it may be telling you to retire it and get a replacement. Also, check if the vacuum line is connected to the rear base of the carburetor on a typical V8 engine.

Re: brake pedal hard to push.
Thanks for the reply Jake1971, I haven't listened for the hiss yet and the carb that is on it right now floods out real bad. The PO threw in a rebuilt edelbrock carb as part of the deal. I believe that there is a line hooked up on the back of the carb that is on there now. If I were to listen for the sound I assume it would need to be running correct? As in the motor running. Sorry for the dumb question. I really need to put that other carb on but I am lost to exactly where the lines and stuff go. I am such a rookie at all of this.

Re: brake pedal hard to push.
if the vacuum is hooked up properly than the booster is bad , and welcome to the forum from Texas. good luck on your truck.

Re: brake pedal hard to push.
Ok I will look tomorrow to make sure it is hooked up. I believe it is I think I remember seeing it hooked up directly to the booster. Any Idea how much it would cost to replace the booster by chance?

Re: brake pedal hard to push.
Welcome to the site, you will find a lot of help here, your carb is flooding cause of the needle and seat is sticky. That is a biggie with the Edelbrock. The fix is a glass type filter closer to the carb. Also the fuel pressure could be to high over riding the spring causing the same effect so a regulator turned to about 5.5 psi will fix that. The is a great owners helper on the Edelebrock web site. Go there and read up and get some help there are super simple to work on. You don't even have to take it off to fix those issues. Jim

Thanks Jim does the Edelebrock website tell ya where to hook what lines up to and such. The carburetor is off the truck I need to take the crappy one off and put the edelebrock on there.
