409 in 60-66 pick-up
Has anyone put a 409 in a 60-66 pick-up? Im thinking of putting one in my 63 and was wondering what headers will work. I dont have any exhaust manifolds. Thanks

Re: 409 in 60-66 pick-up
Have seen plenty with the 348's & 409's , but they all had the cast iron manifolds. Mostly in medium-heavy duty trucks

Re: 409 in 60-66 pick-up
409 into a 60-66, that would be a really cool swap! I'd encourage you to search around for a nice set of used factory manifolds. I recently took the headers off the 350 in my 64 C10 and went with the factory rams horn style manifolds. Headers are just a pain...fighting with the clutch linkage, starter and starter wiring, oil filter access, etc. I'm much happier with the manifolds.

Wow! That looks great. Maybe i should just look for some cast iron manifolds. Is yours a stock truck motor?

Re: 409 in 60-66 pick-up
Yes the manifolds make more sense. I was thinking maybe better flow through headers.

Re: 409 in 60-66 pick-up
Im sure someone makes shorty headers for the 348/409 too.

Re: 409 in 60-66 pick-up
Lots of bigger trucks had 409 & 348 engines. The truck engines both the 409 & 348 have the dipstick on the passenger side of the engine. the car 409,s have the dipstick also on the pass side the car 348 has the dipstick on the driver side. the truck engines have a notch on the cyl wall to lower the compression. Back in the day they where kinda like a flathead ford. If they where good they where great. Overheat them one time and you had cracked heads or block or blown head gaskets. Really cool looking engines. I had a 348 with tri power carb,s and crome valve covers. I too would vote for stock cast iron exhaust manifolds.

I have a 348 in a 1965 C30 that I will be pulling out, not sure whats wrong with it but it won't turn over. I haven't had a chance to check it out. It will be up for grabs when it comes out.
