Re: Poll for best rewire kit
You left out M&H. M&H and American Autowire are best in my opinion, because their harnesses are exactly like the factory. Easy to install and least problematic. WES

Re: Poll for best rewire kit
the american auto wire kit looks to be the most complete from what i have seen. Having the headlight, ignition, and new dimmer switches are a plus. I was looking at the painless #10206 and it didnt look like it came with the curtosey light harness, switches and a few other odds and ends just from what i can see in the pictures. would the American Autowire be the best choice for someone that is doing an install where all wires are hidden/smooth firewall? thats where im at right now

Re: Poll for best rewire kit
Check out the Highway 15 ,nice kit , I used that kit as well on a custom truck I did-sounds like that's what your doing, you can run the wires anyway you want and hook up whatever accessories ect.. that you want. more work involved - you have to cut wires to length and crimp ends on yourself.

Re: Poll for best rewire kit
Considering my truck won't be using the factory gauge plug in, AC, fan plug, stereo wiring, etc. would a universal kit be more economic/practical since most of my stuff is aftermarket?

Re: Poll for best rewire kit
Most if not all of my truck is aftermarket and the AAW kit worked great! I'd definitely buy another one if I have to.

Re: Poll for best rewire kit
I don't personally have experience with other kits, but I know the m&h fusebox has receptacles for a lot of aftermarket add ons ( pwr windows, elect. Fuel & water pump, elect. Fans, etc. ). But, if keeping somewhat original is not that important to you I have heard a lot of good things about painless wiring, & aaw. It's your baby. Do whatever makes you happy. Good luck!

Re: Poll for best rewire kit
With the AAW kit I understand you have to enlarge the square opening n your firewall to get the fusebox to does Anyone know the exact dimensions you will need to open it up to? Need to know ASAP because my cab will be painted Saturday and I want to do the firewall mod before paint.
Also, does anyone know who rents the correct wire crimping tool needed? Thanks!!! Last edited by Jb70c10; 03-28-2014 at 07:28 AM. |

Re: Poll for best rewire kit
AAW rents the tool, actually it takes two crimpers, large and small for the different size terminals. Also, the crimp is a two crimp process. No way to get the correct crimp without the correct tools. Suggest you look at the crimping tutorial on AAW website. The kit comes with a small bag of test terminals so you can practice crimping.
