'84 Crew cab with Perkins 4 cyl diesel ?

Hi i'm from algeria i found recently a 84 American GM Crew cab truck with a 4 cyl Diesel Perkins , so i'm just asking if these engines are good for this kind of trucks ? i mean they're made originally with at least 6Cyl or V8's but people here use those engines on them because the V8's are rare and their spare parts too

Re: '84 Crew cab with Perkins 4 cyl diesel ?

which Perkins do you have?, a lot of diff. versions
most 4 cylc perkins were about 40-60 horse if your lucky, should'nt get any speeding tickets with that in a 3 ton crew.
a bit of an odd ball to drop in a square, but then i got pictures somewhere of a guy who dropped a Leyland 6 diesel in a '69 f-100

I'm not sure about the engine exactly , but i think they're used in some SAVIEM trucks (French made) that are not available in the USA

Maybe a Perkins 105/4? I had one in a french made Massey Ferguson tractor.

I don't see a problem since it's already in there. It looks like any old tractor engine to me. Perkins Diesels are very reliable in Massey Ferguson tractors.

Looks 4x4 because of the front lock outs? Pic of front suspension and all will tell the tale. If i had to guess i'd also say yes because of ride height.

Looks like the one I had in the Ferguson. They used them in a lot of marine applications. Mine was a ***** to bleed the fuel system. There was about 6 steps and it didn't ever go the 1st time. Took about an hour or so. Great motor when running though. Try marinas and boat yards for parts.
Good luck.

Re: '84 Crew cab with Perkins 4 cyl diesel ?

if the price is right, i would jump on it. truck looks to be a K30 crew. lock-outs on the front, look inside & see if there's a transfer case lever coming threw the floor, front susp will be leaf spring. i'd guess it's a custom deluxe by the lowball exterior. if the perkins runs fine, i too would leave it. sure would be a head turner over here every time you popped the hood.
will prob. be slow, 1 ton k30 crew's will most likely be geared with 4:10's or 4:56's. with any luck it might still have the d60 front axle. body looks to be rust-free, always a bonus.

Thanks ! about the parts of these engines i think it wouldn't be a big problem , i think they we're applicated on some old french / algerian made trucks Berliet GAK , but i'm not sure so i wish that !
