Mustang II help/question?
This is the 1st time using a mustang II, all other times I have used sub frames from Camaro's
This went on easy enough but now looking at it I have some issues. 1 the sway bar just doesn't fit. I think I was sent the wrong ne when it was shipped. I have a original ( not mine guy down the road had it laying around) mustang II and it will bolt up. 2. The biggest problem is I am out of adjustment and have not set camber/caster yet. Just visually I need to pull in the upper control arms at least 1". I know these narrowed A arms are made for Camaros...are they made for Mustang II and will that fix the problem? |

Re: Mustang II help/question?
Did you do a test fit on everything with it just tacked together? It looks to me like the top spring mount is to far out. We always tacked in the lower section and assembled the suspension to verify the position at ride height and to mount the top bracket. Once all tacked in then check the reaction of the suspension through the travel for things like camber changes or toe changes that would adversely affect the way it drove. The ones we did used coil overs so not a problem with the position of the spring bucket. They need to be the correct distance from the control arm at ride height. I would not put a shorter arm on it to correct this. The first thing I would do is set the chassis at ride height front and rear. Set the center line of the spindle at the correct height based on the wheel and tire combination and take a look at the lower control arm and the rack to ensure they are where they need to be. This should be done with upper control arm loose and a square on the rotor to set it at 0 camber. If that all looks ok then work out a plan to get upper bracket moved to the correct position. If the lower does not look right when set up at ride height it may be the part that is off.

Re: Mustang II help/question?
Hey Iceburgh, your's looks close to what my set-up is, but you lower control arm looks short to me (could be the pic) I'm posting a couple of my pics just for reference. I would call the vendor and ask if they can give you measurements from the center of shock tower to center of shock tower. This should tell you if your in the ball park. I would also measure your lower control arm from mounting bolt to center of lower ball joint and ask them if it is the correct arm for your truck. I've installed 6 or 7 MII in different cars and trucks, and from different vendors, and never had any problem with setting camber. I've got room to adjust mine either way. Let us know how you make out...Jim

Re: Mustang II help/question?
Iceburgh, sorry mines all together, been on the road for 10 yrs now. I will see if I can get some measurements of control arm points and maybe some others that might help, may take me a day or so, but I will get you something. I post to a few other threads that guys are doing MII, I'll see if any have theirs apart for measurements...Jim

Re: Mustang II help/question?
Thanks guys for the help.
We test fitted everything and thought we had adjustment but not enough I guess. If I was to do it all over again I would have went with the tried and true Camaro clip. Done 8 or 9 and have thousands of miles with no problem. I am convinced this is on properly but I am npt sure the lowers are correct. I cant find how long the stock width lower arms are to be. I found the tops and they are stock length. I will give the vendor a chance but looks like this will be the last time doing anything with him. Should have known better |

Re: Mustang II help/question?
Problem with these kits is some of them use other than stock arm geometry. Do you know the year and make of the spindles? They can ad problems to the mix also.

Re: Mustang II help/question?
Iceburgh, Don't give up on the MII they are good, something is just off on yours. I found two members that have units that look like yours that are still being built, they may be able to get you measurements. First one is J48chevy thread #606670 and the second is Niper0108 thread #618513. I found one that is a Fatman unit, different than yours but you could ask that is Root2812 thread #526483. Will try to get measurements of my lower arms tomorrow...Jim

Re: Mustang II help/question?
Hey Iceburgh, got the measurement for my lower control arm. From center of bolt (where it goes thru the crossmember) to center of the ball joint it is 14". Let me know what you think....Jim

Re: Mustang II help/question?
Good deal thanks...
The company I bought from gotr in touch today and said they will make it right. The measurment of 14" makes me believe I have a narrow lower and a stock upper |
