Re: 1962 chevy suburban 4x4 power steering conversion help
Search my posts - I started one about doing power on a 4x4. While a kit may help you get the box mounted and/or pump attached and spinning, the arm atop the driver side knuckle is not included in any kits I am aware of and necessary to complete conversion.

Re: 1962 chevy suburban 4x4 power steering conversion help
cutting the arm has nothing to do with adding power steering, it has to do with the turning radius. with the stock arm you will not get full turning (lock to lock on your axle) in other words, it will not turn sharp (closed knuckle axles don't turn sharp stock anyway) it makes it worse. when you shorten the arm it puts it back to stock.

Re: 1962 chevy suburban 4x4 power steering conversion help
Does your Suburban have a I6 or V8? If V8 does it have the front horseshoe mount? What pump and brackets do you have? Have you checked out this thread yet?

Re: 1962 chevy suburban 4x4 power steering conversion help
1st is your steering box for a 4x4? with the horseshoe mt and short w/p you will need to mod the h/shoe mt and a 3 row crank pulley, and use the third grove for the p/s. for w/p and alt i used the 2nd grove. it depends where you have the alt mounted. you could go long water pump but still need to notch the h/shoe. I have a short setup and this is how i modded the h/shoe. welded in an after market p/s pump bracket. (there is one just like the one i welded in on the outside of the pump.
