NP205 removal
I have a 72 cst Blazer 350/350 auto with the np 205 TC. How do I remove the TC ? I need to reseal it because it's leaking trans fluid into the case? Thanks Alex

Re: NP205 removal
Remove front and rear driveshafts. Remove t-case shift linkage. Then remove the 6 (?) 9/16 headed bolts found between the trans and t-case. The ones that thread into the t-case. Support with a jack of some sort and pull rearward aprox. 4-6 inches and it'll drop out.

Remember to replace the o-ring on the transfer case input to the trans. I forgot and after pulling to replace the seals, it fill ed the t/c up again and I still have yet to pull it to replace the o-ring.

Re: NP205 removal
I would suggest getting one of the 100bux transmission jacks, and then create a wedge that goes between it and the TC. Because that TC is one heavy SOB. I dropped mine on my knee 6mo ago and its still not right.
I would also recommend removing the floor hump, makes accessing things WAY easier.

Re: NP205 removal
Looks like I need to pull the rear cross member to? How does the shift linkage come out? Looks like one big bolt? So I leave the adapter attach to the T/H until I drop the T/C out of the way? Then pull the adapter? Does anyone have part numbers? Thanks for the info guys. Alex

Re: NP205 removal
you don't have to pull the cross member, just the one bolt for the shifter then pull the t/c and then adapter
you can do a search for the seal p/n (auto parts had them in stock in my case) I used my motorcycle lift to pull my t/c with a couple 2x4's to keep it level worked great good luck

Re: NP205 removal
I will agree it's heavy. Really really heavy. I think it was like 600 lbs. Mine tilted sideways on my transmission jack, and it was all I could do to get it back on there right. I would definitely recommend using a transmission jack.

Re: NP205 removal
Borrowed some info from another site
"All of our NP205 transfer cases are shipped dry and weigh in @ ~130lbs," |

Re: NP205 removal
OK, maybe I estimated a little high, but it is really heavy.
The Harbor Freight transmission jack works pretty well. |

Re: NP205 removal
Heres what I did with mine after dropping it on my knee.
I took cardboard, sketched the bottom angles. took a 2x10 or 2X12? as base. cut 2 or 3 2X4 of the template I made out. screwed all together (make sure all of this is even on the side where the crossmember is) put a metal angle on the one side to hold the strap. then put the strap around it. This all sits ontop a harbor freight trans jacket. |
