Mystery brake fluid
I'm stumped! I have the rear brake calipers rom an '02 Camaro bolted to my '74? 10 bolt rear. The pedal has always been somewhat soft, but this past weekend I noticed what appeared to be brake fluid buildup all along the inside of the passenger side wheel. I looked over the caliper & hose but find no obvious signs of leakage. Any Ideas??

Did you look with someone applying pressure to the pedal? Is the fluid just on the wheel and not on the caliper, pads, rotor or axle housing? You might have a very small leak at the banjo fitting that only shows up under pressure. I had a similar issue with one of mine from not replacing the brass washers with new.

Have somebody push hard on the pedal (don't stand on it, but be firm) and see what's what. If you have a 4wd, it could be gear oil. Also possible, grease residue from doing the bearings. Most likely, you have a "sometimes" leak that isn't obvious from a look without pressure.

Took a closer look and it's the axle seal. I would have preferred to deal with the brakes than to take this rear end apart. Hmmmm, maybe time for an upgrade. I've had my eye on a posi!

Hah! You said "caliper" and I immediately thought "front end", even though you said rear 10 bolt...
Could it be time for a 9" or 12 bolt?
