Question electric radiator fans

just purchased a 64 chevy stepside C-10 with a small block 350 motor, vintage a/c has been installed and (I live in S Fla.) with a/c operating in stop/go traffic engine temp gets over 200 so am considering electric fan to compliment the engine driven radiator fan (addition to not replace) any help on size and cpm flow for this application . Thank you

Re: electric radiator fans

Grab an electric from a Lincoln Mark 8 and ditch the mechanical fan. That thing moves a ton of air.

How far over 200 do they get? 195-205 range isn't bad for hot temps, stop and go, with AC going.

Re: electric radiator fans

As siggyfreud said use a Lincoln Mark VIII electric fan. I installed one on my 64 C10 with a 350 & Vintage Air. It actually runs too cool. I used a 160 thermostat and a 160 switch from Summit. I'm going to change to a 180 thermostat and a 180 temp switch. The Mark VIII is a perfect fit for our trucks. I built my own support brackets and spacers using scrap stainless from my work but the same can be made using 2" X 1/8" angle iron and using 3/8" PVC pipe as spacers. Use a battery from a cordless drill to test the fan before buying at the wrecking yard. The middle lead on the fan isn't used - use the 2 outside leads to test the fan. I used a Volvo fan relay for my motor but used 2 separate Bosch style relays to complete the ground to fore the Volvo relay. One for the Vintage Air Controller so when the A/C is on the fan is running and one off the ignition so it will trip through the fan switch at temperature. If you want more information feel free to ask. Here's Pictures

Re: electric radiator fans

Would you happen to know the thickness of the Lincoln fan?

Re: electric radiator fans

Here's more pictures showing how I used a DeWalt battery out of my cordless to test the fan, and pictures of the fan installed in my 64 C10. Again if you have any further questions or want more pictures feel free to ask. Oh, the combination Radiator Overflow/Windshield Washer container came from a Ford Exploder. Fits like it was made for our trucks. I did have to flip the horn relay and voltage regulator to the other side of the radiator support. I later felt the factory Alternator wasn't enough to power the A/C and Mark VIII and bought a 120 amp one off eBay for $80.00. I'm very cheap and built my truck mostly scrounging the junkyards and I try to wait for the Pick N Pull 1/2 sale days to make my purchases. I'm that cheap.

I'll get you a measurement for the depth or thickness of the Mark VIII Wednesday when I get home from work.

I can try and measure it tomorrow. Good idea on the spacers btw. I need to do a better mounting than the old lock ties through the radiator.
