exhaust manifold.

I know this is probably the wrong area of the forum to post but this is where I get a lot of help from all you fellow guru's. Bout to finish up my 292 this weekend and my exhaust manifold has seen better miles. The three bolts that mate it to the intake are stripped and aren't of any re use anymore. Basically need a new manifold, anyone have a spare hang in around they don't want or need?

Re: exhaust manifold.

stripped? are the bolts stripped or the bolt holes. cuz if the bolts are stripped, buy new ones. if the bolt holes are stripped then heli-coil it...

Re: exhaust manifold.

Already heli coiled the holes a couple years back and it made it worse. Can only use two bolts and creates an exhaust leak. Money is a tight rope atm and just looking for alternate options. A fellow member 64 chevy truck outta Rochester, WA said he has some spare 6 parts for a 292 and I tried to get ahold of him but no avail. Anyone have his number to get ahold of him by chance?

I might be able to sell you the one in my truck when you come down! Or just make you drool over it... You might get to even see it run in person! LOL! Not sure..still debating. Have 3 of them...

Re: exhaust manifold.

I've never liked heli coils. Have you thought about using a threaded insert rather than a heli coil? Here's a link to McMaster-Carr and their website. Unlike Grainger's they do sell to private individuals and shipping is FAST!

http://www.mcmaster.com/#standard-se...nserts/=rzep4k

They also give you tons of information. Say your stripped hole is 3/8"-16 you will need to drill a 31/64" hole and tap to 9/16"-12 thread and screw in your insert. These are NOT coils. The best way to explain it would be like a pipe nipple threaded outside & inside. I've never had a problem using threaded inserts but I have nothing but problems with heli coils.
Hope this info helps.
