Tilt steering swap help

I have a 68 short bed i want to add tilt steering whats needed? how hard ? what trucks with tilt will work ?

While it is easy, being that you have a 68, there is another part you need to find.
In 68, the steering columns were not the collapsable ones, and if you were to just install it as is, the steering shaft would not fit.
You'll need to get the shaft out of a 69 - 72 also. Not the one in the column, but the one that is between the column and the gear box.

I am in the middle of doing a van tilt and am having problems with the neutral safety switch. I did not realize I needed to cut a groove in the van column and move up the switch. Any suggestions on how to do it the right way? And quickly, my truck has been down for two weeks... I need to drive here again.. hate to see her sitting.

Jay, I guess there is a right way and a wrong way for everything. The way I figure it, if the end result works then its the right way.
When I installed my van tilt I found that the neutral safety switch was interfering with my brake pedal arm. I'm assuming you want to move the switch for that very reason. Well, some folks may not follow my way of thinking for doing things, but at least I'm not a "dope-smoking old man", just a "dope-smoking middle-aged man". I took a hacksaw and cut about 1/2" off the end of the neutral safety switch to clear the brake pedal arm. It didn't interfere with the operation of the switch and still works fine after 4 years.

This is the way I install the neutral safety switch.

Using a cutoff wheel on an air grinder, I locate and cut the same size hole in the lower part of the steering column. The hole is centered on column in line with the existing hole and located from the end the same distance as your non-tilt column.

Once the hole is cut into the column, I put the column into neutral and locate a 1/4"x1/4" x 1/2" long sheet metal angle,(20 gage) in the middle of the shift tube with one of the 1/4" legs of the angle verticle. I put the neutral saftey switch in neutral and use the switch to confirm that the angle is centered in the hole. Once the angle is at the right location, it is tacked in place with a MIG welder.

To drill the attaching screw holes in the column, I line up the neutral safety switch, (shifter in neutral and switch in neutral) and
spot the holes in the middle of the slots on the safety switch, (that way you can be sure of adjustment).

i just used my dremel tool to cut a channel the same width and diameter as the existing channel that the n.s.switch is in normally b-4 the change of loc. measure 7"directly south of the old channeland put your new channel there......once you've done that you'll need to cut another channel in the inner tube to let the tang of the n.s.switch rest in as you go through the gear selections. drill some mounting hgoles for the switch itself.....bingo youre done.....have some one help yuou in locating the proper placement of the switch in the column for the back-up lights to be activated when you put it in"R".
