some body work pics/how to's?

I have to replace the right side front fender rear brace... anyone know of, or have any advice or pictures of what they did? I have a general idea of what I need to do, but I would like to see a couple steps first. I would have ordered both sides, but I think one of the PO's did the driver side years ago, or found a replacement fender, cause it's solid.
Thanks guys,
Jason

Thanks Woogeroo,

I just got lazy last night, I should have looked around a bit before I posted the question, but I know that there are guys on the board that know the location of these posts right off the top of their heads. Like I said, I was just kinda being lazy.

Thanks,
Jason

Ok, so....
here is a quick update on what I did, with pictures.

First, i had to get these little dammits out, not too hard to do, but you have to be careful if you want to reuse them. Might get some new ones... I think I found them from classic parts, if the part is what I think it is in the catalog.

The red and rusty part in the corner there is a patch panel I made from a 55 gallon drum and used a hammer and dolly to form. I will be cleaning the rust before I undercoat.

Here's one of the offending rusted brace.

If you look closely, you can see where I marked the old brace before I cut it. I forgot to take a picture before I started to cut. Remember, measure everywhere, and then take a few more measurements to be safe.

I cut along the side before I unfolded the edge, because I figured it would make it easier to unfold with the old part of the brace out of the way.

Just as easy as it looks, drove a screwdriver into the seam, and unfold it.

this is the brace I ordered, I ended up getting it from LMC, Mostly because I already had an account set up. It is actually a good quality part, and it was a tad bit thicker than the original.

After measuring and marking, I cut the brace where I needed to. There didn't seem any reason to replace the whole thing, cause the bottom was the only part in bad shape

the fit wasn't quite right, but I hoped it would be that way, cause it's easier to take metal off rather that put it back.

Re: some body work pics/how to's?

Kinda blurry, but I had to trim down the side to get it in the corner enough.

If you look closely, the holes in the seal piece actually line up well. Might have to ream out the bottom hole a little bit, but no biggie.

Looks good, and the same way we we did mine. I had to elongate the hole on the triangular shaped bracket on the truck just a little when I bolted it back on, but no big deal and it fits well.

I got new clips from Classic Parts since mine were so rusty; takes 6 per side as I recall.

Nice work on the fender brace, What are those clips for? I saw these on ebay and was wondering if they were what you were using.

Re: some body work pics/how to's?

The clips are used to hold the fender seals to the inside of the fender. The rubber seals are staped to metal brackets, and the brackets are attached to the fender with these clips. 4 clips for the long seal along the door post and 2 clips the hold the L shaped seal at the top as I recall.

Re: some body work pics/how to's?

Out of curiousity why does everyone replace just a piece of fender brace? I mean I set out to do what everyone else does but as soon as you peel back the lip and remove the old piece of brace, I couldn't ignore all that surface rust under the brace on inside of the fender skin. So I went ahead and just removed and replaced my entire braces plus I cleaned up all that ugly rust and coated it with a proper rust coating. That rust under there will only cause problems down the road--just sayin.....

You can definitely do it!! It really is a breeze, just remember to measure several places BEFORE you start to unfold or cut.

I too thought about that, but at the top of the part I unfolded, there was not rust to speak of, just sugar sand type stuff... I was able to get a good look under the remaining part of the brace, and it still pretty and baby blue. Maybe just lucky?
