62 with a 78 front end questions.
For anyone running later model disc brake front end (mines a 78): Where did you attach the shock mounts to the frame? Is this power steering box 62 vintage or 78 vintage.
Thanks |

Re: 62 with a 78 front end questions.
I am still working on putting a 84 front end under my 62 so can't speak to the shock mount from personal experience. But there is a good write up by Markeb01 here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/member.php?u=29594.
It shows where he moved the upper shock mount. The steering box looks to be the newer 73+ type. |

Re: 62 with a 78 front end questions.
Here's the thread pertaining to my front suspension swap. Although I failed to show the finished shock installation, it does show how far the brackets needed to be moved to line up correctly. If I can help with any other question just let me know. Good luck.

Yes. 63 and newer frames are different. The late suspension goes right into them and the shocks bolt up to the original mounts without mods. The 62-down guys have it harder since they have the old torsion bar arrangement type of frame.

Re: 62 with a 78 front end questions.
Removed the control arms to replace upper and lower bushings. Also coating whole frame with chassis saver. Hardly any rust! Green rubber garden hose used to hold the alignment shims in place. Bushings are a real dog to remove.

Re: 62 with a 78 front end questions.
If the steering box accepts inverted flare fittings it is a '68 to about '80. If it accepts metric with O-ring fittings it is a '81-'91 steering box.
