New in tank fuel pump not working

Anyone ever have problems with a in tank pump not priming?
This is a new tank as well as new pump. it has worked about 4 -6 months ago.
Now when the key is turned on you can hear the relay click on then click off.

I checked, with meter, 12.5 volts going to the wire just outside tank.

Any suggestions short of dropping the tank and pulling the pump?

Yes this is an LS1 conversion.

Tks
Rich

Re: New in tank fuel pump not working

Pop a different relay in, just to be sure. You can swap that back out, takes 20 seconds.

Then I'd look at the external ground if you have one. After those two easy steps, its pulling the pump out. Are you using the ECM trigger for the fuel pump, or a hotwire of switched +12v?

iirc on the relay its
30- 12v constant
85- ground
87- power to pump
86- fuel pump relay control

If you try to start it, what happens? Is there any change in voltage on the power wire?

Depends if its stuck from sucking something in, or if it arc'd itself.

Re: New in tank fuel pump not working

I am out of town for the weekend (Mobile, AL). Should pull the pump Monday.
I did notice it is retained by typical locking ring. I have a spare pump in a 2002 silverado.
But this one I am pulling out is basically a new tank and new pump, bought from Spectre Premium. Oh well, will see in a couple of days.

Thanks BR3W

NP

Just try and run the pump once in a bucket or something outside of the truck, just to make sure your not junking a good pump.

Re: New in tank fuel pump not working

David,
Was your tank made for the F/I pump or did you have to modify? Does it have baffles? Also, tell me about the wiring hook up.

Re: New in tank fuel pump not working

Ok, I took the pump out. Soaked it in pb blaster for a few days. Tested it..it works. Just got finished putting it back into tank and putting the tank back up. Seems to work as it should.

Thanks everyone
