10-bolt disc brake rearend question

Since I need a new rearend, I found a disc-brake rearend out of a Camaro (approximately 62" wide according to the 10-bolt data I have) for about the same price as most of the drum rearends that I have seen.

It makes me wonder - if I run disc/disc, do I need to go to a new Master Cyl since I had/have drum/drum?

no matter what I do, to get it back on the road I have to get a new rearend or completely rebuild and re-axle the 10-bolt I have, so that purchase is inevitable... it just made me wonder if I can just make the disc/disc swap and leave the rest as-is and have manual disc/disc.

i use an 86 trans am rearend with discs in truk, same as the camero.
what year and gear is your camero rearend?
you will need a disc/disc mc no mater what the year.
disc brakes use higher pressure and lower volume than drum brakes
your better off to install a dual mc anyway

best idea i've seen was to leave the stock pedal and mc
cut out the back end of the mc and mount the new mc on a homemade bracket behind the old mc
run a new rod with hiem joint through the old mc to the new mc
minimal fabrication this way

flipped on stock springs minus the 2 short springs w/ 3'' c-notch in the frame

If you already have a dual master then Yes, if you have a drum /drum master now....you can run disc/ disc. It would be best to get a 67 and later disc/disc master like the corvette with larger bore diameter, but a drum/drum works just as good ( ask me how I know). You will need a 2lb. residual valve in the rear line. I run mine where the long hardline joins the short transfer hard line at the passenger frame rail just forward of the rear axle. The jumper line connects to the rubber line that goes to the " T" at the rr end housing. You can also spend a little more coin and get a wilwood adjustable proportioning valve to dial it in how you like it i.e. driving style etc.

Thanks guys!

Since I am not taking the cab off the frame I am trying to see what can be done from underneath.

I keep trying to stick to a low-budget build ... was going to try and go non-power brakes and no power steering... especially since every power kit I have seen says that it wont work with a manual trans and I am running a 4-speed and dont plan on swapping out to an automatic.

Seems that the disc disc manual kits are almost as much as a power kit though

With what you are doing on the budget you have, I would do a front disc manual conversion and be alble to stop safely and have less headaches and outgoing muhlah

thats what I am thinking... the drop front axle I have has a disc conversion on it. I am thinking maybe I just get a new bracket and a new dual master cyl... and have manual disc/drum. (and find a drum rearend)

or buy the 5 lug axle conversion for yours when you have it rebuilt

their kit won't work, doesn't mean you can't fab your own bracket.
i used a junkyard mc and booster and made my own brackets to mount everything. junkyard rearend too.

what year and gear is the camero rearend?

3rd gen F-body Camaro

I have seen a drum-brake chevelle rearend or two local that I might pick up instead and go with the manual disc setup for now.

It looks like I will really just need a dual MC, a bracket, a prop valve and some residuals.
