Found This Stripping a 54 Door
Started stripping a spare door I got with my 54 GMC and found some old lettering. Can't believe this door came from Mass. It's virtually rust free. I stopped and cleared it with some satin. It's a spare anyway so I just hung it up for now. I sure hope the Bonazzolli boys don't make me an offer I can't refuse.

Re: Found This Stripping a 54 Door
That is too cool for words! And the fact that it's an extra that you can keep like that, too damn cool!

$$ says it was this guy's company:

Re: Found This Stripping a 54 Door
Very cool piece of history. Glad you are saving it! It would be fun to know more about the info Rambow found. I just noticed in the obituary link that Mr. Bonazzoli graduated as a civil engineer right here in Rapid City, SD!

Re: Found This Stripping a 54 Door
When I stripped my doors I found the original appliance repair co lettering, but that was before patina, etc. was cool so I just kept going....That is a cool piece.

Re: Found This Stripping a 54 Door
Neat! When I stripped my doors I found... original paint that wouldn't come off with paint stripper.
One way for a door like yours to stay rust free for so many years is to be submerged in water. That truck wasn't pulled out of a lake or quarry, was it? A bridge contractor from Boston area, their truck's door found in Maine, and a name straight out of a mob movie... this is all the evidence you need to start a good story. With the age of the truck, and the age of Mr. A. Bonazolli in the obit, I wonder if the obit was for "& son." The building at the address found above should be long gone by now: http://www.townofhudson.org/Public_D...tus?textPage=1 Estimated Project Schedule March 2012 to April 2012: Demo Bonazzoli building at 173 Washington St. Also, some mention of the company or "G Bonazzoli" in older newspapers. P. 20 of 9/2/64 Fitchburg Sentinel: The rebuilding of the intersection was a co-operative effort between the Highway and Water Divisions of the Public Works Department and the contractor, G. Bonazzoli and Sons, Inc. The Highway Division laid a large t r u n k sewer in the roadbed and the Water Division lowered a water main and laid in a section of 24-inch main in Rindge Road. Other dates include 11/10/54, 4/25/52, 10/12/54 10/28/54 and more http://www.myheritage.com/research?a...mf3.1+lnmsrs.1 Last edited by 1project2many; 07-10-2014 at 06:51 AM. |

Re: Found This Stripping a 54 Door
Thanks everybody, I agree 1project, that the obit must be for one of the boys. And thanks for the links to the heritage site.
Hi Lynx, Nice to see another Mainer here! And also very nice to see MartinSr here too. Years ago I began doing bodywork and frequenting various body and hot rod forums where Brian had posted a lot of good information. Some of which I'm using right now (MEK hardener date codes!). Thanks for all your contributions Brian and very glad to see that you are an AD owner too! I'm new to the AD game but am slowly picking it up thanks in large part to this forum. |
