Does this look right?

I wanted to replace the studs on my 72 Jimmy cross member while it is apart. Much to my surprise I couldn't find replacement studs anywhere for a 1/2 ton. I was only able to find 3/4 ton studs and even they aren't plentiful it seems.

When I put the shaft on the 1/2 ton studs there was lots of play they were 1/2" studs and the cross shaft has a 9/16" hole.

The 3/4 ton studs are 9/16" so they fit nicely but I am not sure if thats the way they are supposed to be?

They are 1/2" for a reason, You need some clearance between the bolt and the shaft holes because the shaft when shimmed doesn't always end up 90 degrees to the bolt and would bind and over stress the bolts if you used 9/16".

Thanks for the reply. That's what I kinda thought and was afraid of.

I believe during the several hours looking for the bolts online I came across some information that the bolts from LMC where not the same and don't fit very well.

So I guess now I have the option of getting 3/4 ton cross shafts or enlarging the holes in the shafts I have.

Well forget that idea about drilling the cross shaft larger, three different drill bits wouldn't touch it, took a die grinder to it and that wouldn't touch it either. So either I chance it that there will be enough play or buy replacement 3/4 ton shafts.
