Flashing side markers - bug or feature?
Put in new flashers today, went around to make sure everything works, and see that my front side marker lights flash with the signal lights (on that side only).
The also flash when the 4-way flashers (Hazard lights). They work whether the park/headlights are on or off (meaning even when on, they still blink off for the off state). The rear side markers do nothing other than light up with park/headlights. My 2010 Range Rover does that too, and even if not intended I'd like to keep it, but did they do that in 1970? All my other vintage cars are 69 or earlier, and they definitely don't.

Feature. They are working exactly how they are supposed to.

Re: Flashing side markers - bug or feature?
Not all trucks had front side markers that flash. My 69 did not have lighted markers, just reflectors. I decided I wanted them to light. Rather than ordering a new harness or merely splicing wires, I stripped harnesses from several trucks in the junkyard and noticed the harnesses were different. I did some searching on this forum and found a thread or two that stated that not all front marker lights flash. The wiring I used in the front merely has a positive wire running out of, and molded into, the back side of the the parking light socket with the marker socket at the opposite end. This arrangement lights the markers but does not flash them. I don't have the other harness here to check the difference in how it's wired. I think one of the other threads stated that when GM first put the lights in, they did not flash. I don't recall if that thread stated that the change to flashing lights was a mid-year change or model year change. Unfortunately, I did not pay attention to what years I stripped the various wiring from. I actually wanted mine to flash...
Here's a link to a thread where we discussed it. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=503138 And another. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=455493 Last edited by FirstOwner69; 07-15-2014 at 11:40 PM. |

Mine is a 71 Custom Deluxe and they flash up front but not out back. This is how they came from the factory. It was a opition in 69-70 and in 71 they came standard on all models I think to operate like this.
