What drive shaft do I look for?
So just installed a SM465 in my '66 C10 shortbed. I understand I need a driveshaft with a slipjoint. Can someone tell me what trucks would have a compatible driveshaft that I can try and source used? Thanks a bunch

Re: What drive shaft do I look for?
Any of the 60's 70's and I think early 80' swb trucks that had that transmission will work. Its hard to find a used one. The wrecking yards use forklifts to move vehicles around and destroy the drivelines with the forks. I finally resigned myself to just having a driveline shop make me new ones. Usually costs me between 300 and 500 bucks depending on what it is.

A driveshaft is one of the items that I always buy new. There are a couple of good driveshaft shops in SF, and I would talk with them about your application and what you need.

Re: What drive shaft do I look for?
Frank Wallace comes to mind, but there might be shops located closer to you. I had a local shop to me build me a custom steel shaft for my truck that came to $300. For that kind of pricing, I cannot justify buying a possibly damaged used shaft.

I keep watching for those parting out on CL.
I think the SM465 started getting used in 67. It replaced the SM420. I myself am going to a th350, so I'm watching for shortbeds parting from 66 on.
