Re: More Engine Codes!
F = Flint (Motor)
03 = March 13 = 13th day (the I is a 1, I'm sure it's a I on your block but Is got used as 1s often. There is no letter that belongs in that slot.) D = 55 265 Truck 205 manual 4bbl D = 56 265 Truck 205 manual 4bbl D = 58 283 Impala 185 PG 2bbl D = 59 283 Impala 185 PG 2bbl D = 60 283 Impala 170 PG 2bbl D = 61 283 Impala 170 PG 2bbl D = 62 283 Impala 170 PG 2bbl D = 63 283 Impala 195 PG 2bbl D = 64 283 Impala 195 PG 2bbl Check the date code on the block for the year. |

Re: More Engine Codes!
There is, just get the date code off the block. Or are you meaning more specific than that?

Re: More Engine Codes!
You have the plant, engine assembly date and a "D" application code. For more you are going to need the block casting date/year. This going to give you the source installation like Bruceman1968 shows. With a March date code the model year is easy to deduce.
Cross check the block casting number to verify the application. Then see what the head casting number and date codes are. If you want more check intake casting and date code. Even a distributor is coded. Its not rocket science just a matter of digging, recovering the numbers and seeing how well they fit to determine what you have and what it might have been.
