When only NOS will make it done right!
There are a few things in my restorations that just has to be NOS or mint used just because you look at it everytime you are sit behind the steering wheel. When I saw these I knew this was going to be one expensive auction since I am just about to the point to put my original doors back together on my 66 Custom Cab shortbox. I probably was bidding against one of the Lambrecht truck owners but I chose to spend my money on these nos pieces for my build.
I'm not bragging I just wanted to point out I just can't believe the prices these days for NOS pieces and that being said so very few good correct NOS pieces left to find. On the inflationary side of buying those nos treasures for the last 40 years it is a good thing too as I can sell and trade some of my NOS at today's prices to offset what I still need to buy today. Can you just imagine what some of those early truck restorations some 20 years ago using total GM over the counter or then discontinued NOS parts would be worth in parts alone today? Mark

Re: When only NOS will make it done right!
I agree. I try and get NOS when its affordable and can be found. Then I go OEM.....then repop when I absolutely have too. Looking through the 63 price and parts info book....there are so many hard to find options that were affordable even in 63 that would commend huge sums today.
I think there is still a ton of NOS stuff out there. Probably sitting on a closed dealer shelf somewhere waiting to be exhumed and put on the market. My hope at least. And the price on the vent windows really isn't that bad considering what they charge for a new reproduction set. I still see quite a few NOS tailgates and fenders pop up at decent prices considering they want $200-$400 for a repop plus shipping.

Most of the time NOS is waaaaay out of my ballpark on pricing, otherwise I would be on them when possible. I have been pretty fortunate to get what I need with decent used OEM parts and refurbing them. As of right now I have not had to use any reproduction parts yet.

I feel your pain, I have a ton of NOS parts going into my truck from an aluminum grille and bezels to bumper guards to a radio and on. I did just score 2 NOS fan shrouds even over the last month,

Re: When only NOS will make it done right!
WOW I remember paying like 160.00 bucks for gm fenders in 1983 for my truck.a gm tailgate for 180.00. I kick myself for not buying a NOS roof skin for 50.00 from the dealer I worked for back in 1990 because it was bent on the corner

Re: When only NOS will make it done right!
well i blame and thank this forum and all the members for showing me the NOS light, dont get me wrong i will working my magic on an oem part off a pic in a heart beat, but its something about an old parts that are really new. kinda like real quality is about to go into the build vs. something off a shelf from china somewhere... i thank you all, now i put my all into my build and not just slap on some part that kinda fits!!!
