Rochester B - Loose Spring?
I'm having trouble with the manual choke on this Rochester B. When I turn the idle screw to where the truck will staying running it makes it impossible to pull out the manual choke... it just won't budge. If I back off the idle screw enough to where I can operate the choke then the truck will not stay running.
This may be completely unrelated but I'm also wondering if I should cut the slack out of this spring.

If you push down on the accel. pedal a little the choke will pull out much easier. You can oil the cable & the shaft. That helps also.

Can you show some more pics of your carb. There was a fast idle adjustment also. See item #14

That's the thing... I didn't used to have to tap the accel pedal just to pull out the choke. it pulled out just fine before but now it seems I have to screw in the idle so far that it makes it hard for the choke to move. I'm going to tinker with it some more tonight. |

I can't explain it but it's working fine now. I pulled the carb and opened it up, tweaked the float heights a bit, put it back together, worked the idle/throttle linkage back and forth a bit. put the carb back on.... and it's now idling fine and the choke is again operational.
No idea why but I guess it's just gonna have to be one of those things. |
