I have one of those on my 69 with the round rings on it,and it has a hole in the middle,it came off a low mile 68 Big Block truck i parted,i figured it was original.the first one i had ever seen,my wife lost my locking gas cap,so i just tossed it on my GMC to cover the whole temporarily, until i can put on a new shiny one.LOL

You can get a new GM one from the dealer for about $20 retail or $12 dealer cost. P/N 3914958. Its for a 1971 paintable gas cap.

That pic doesn't look like an original cap to me, mtdave... ebay does...
Napa has the chrome versions in stock. Although you might have to ask for one for a scout because some stores list the gas cap for a IH travelall and scout 80/800 as being correct for the 67-72 chevy pickup (it's really big and flat and has a handle type thing on it). 71-80 scout II will have the correct cap for you, just make sure you get vented or non vented as needed. 79-80 are all non vented, earlier depended on emmissions so both should be availible in stock. Could you paint one of those chrome replacement ones? Other parts stores stock them, but napa is higher quality. |

fwiw, I bought one of the Napa gas caps because my original leaked like a sieve. The Napa caps resemble the originals in that they are round, and chrome, but thats about it. They are cheaper grade metal, and the gasket is smaller. They also don't have the knurled edges or whatever, just smooth. There's also the dorky sticker in the middle that is hard to remove. But, it looks bling-bling and doesn't leak anymore, sooo...I'm happy.

I thought that the gas caps for the 72 where different than the earlier caps. Maybe that is just on the Blazer. I believe the filler tube is a different diameter. I have a filler tube from a 72 blazer at home and my '69 cap doesn't fit on it.

Some 72's did use the different size cap Stoonboy(Randy) needed one and Dubie finally turned one up for him. I think Bowtie and myself each tool a couple of shots at it for him too but none of them fit his larger size filler neck.
