transmission change in near future!!
Good afternoon peoples; I'm planning on changing tranny's this fall from a sag. 3 speed to a 200-4r I just picked up out of a monti carlo (CZ).. I know, I know, 200-4r's, no good, junk, but I'll have to deal with it. The other dreaded thing is I'm not rebuilding it either, ( I like living on the edge). If it doesn't work out its just my labor involved, after all what else would I do...I didn't see it work but was told it was good (YEP!) Just a filter change, I have to get a floor shifter, TV cable and bracket for holley carb, I'll make a cross member, new starter to bolt to the block instead of the bell housing like the setup is now. I'm only doing about 250 HP now so it should be OK... I'm old so I don't do smoking burn outs like when I was a young whipper snapper, I just want to be able to cruize along the highway with every one else... ( thats all I have to say about that)....

Re: transmission change in near future!!
I'd rather have a 200 over a 700 any day!

Yep... 200-4R's are great tranny's. However... tossing an unrebuilt tranny with unknown origins in your rig is just waitng to be yarded right back out in short order.
You might be thinking about the "metric" TH200's that are junk... because the are. ![]() Gary

Re: transmission change in near future!!
200 > 700! .67 vs .73 is about 200 rpms based on calculators!

Re: transmission change in near future!!
This is the kit I plan on picking up to put in before I install the tranny.( along with seals)... Is this what makes the converter unlock when you let off on the throttle and step on it again, or when you step on the throttle to climb a hill, or is that the TV cable that does that? http://www.bowtieoverdrives.com/cata...php?ITEMID=341 Also is this the kit for the holley carb, or can a bracket be made to work. (mines model 4160)..http://www.bowtieoverdrives.com/cata...php?ITEMID=217....I know I can pick up TV cables from Rock Auto, which are different lengths( they call them detent cables), I've heard some people get the wrong cable and it won't give them enough for adjustment, so I think I should get the universal one....http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,ca...,parttype,8484. anyhow, feed back with your experience would be good food for thought.....
