Reproduction '64-'66 windshield quality? (I need one...)
The windshield in the truck I'm driving is covered in fine scratches/pitting and lights up like a Christmas tree when the sun/headlights hit it--it really sucks.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/290921041773...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I can buy a new Chinese one made by "Pittsburgh Glass Works" for $95 off ebay and go pick it up semi-locally. Are these decent? Anyone have/had one? Thanks!

Hey Winston, I've not had any luck finding a nice used OEM tinted windshield, so I'm considering alternatives. Yes, I know they are made overseas, but can you take a peak and tell me if "made in China" appears anywhere on your new glass? Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback, pimpston; if they seem pretty close to OE I'll give one a try. I just was wondering if the thickness/fit/etc. was OK on them. They claim to be OE spec, but we all know how that is sometimes.

Re: Reproduction '64-'66 windshield quality? (I need one...)
I bought a foreign windshield years ago and it had two problems. I was about 30-40% thinner that a stock glass and I was convinced it would never seal well. It was also blue blended at the top, which extended down about 6-8" from the top and would interview with forward vision. Ultimately I gave it away at a swap meet rather than use it.
To the best of my knowledge Pilkington is the best windshield on the market. Years ago it was LOF (Libby Owens Ford) and after mergers/acquisitions it ended up Pilkington. You just have to ask/insist this is the only brand you'll accept. I've never paid a premium to get one, although I think they may only be available in a light green tint currently. It's so light I can't detect the tint, but my wife can see it's there.

Re: Reproduction '64-'66 windshield quality? (I need one...)
Thickness and fit was comparable to the OE windshield, I guess? As long as it's not super thin or fits poorly I think it's an easy decision for me @ $95.

Re: Reproduction '64-'66 windshield quality? (I need one...)
I got a replacement from a local glass company when I first put the truck together 12 years ago. Quality and fit were like original. Sealed well and never had a problem leaking. Have a few chips in it from highway use. I don't know if they are still readily available but call a few local glass companies in your area. Maybe even Safelight.
I dont know if this link will stay with the info in it but it came to $370 for a replacment. https://fixmyglass.safelite.com/External/GetQuote.aspx

Re: Reproduction '64-'66 windshield quality? (I need one...)
I just installed a PGW from the same ebayer for $95 and it seems to be a decent windshield. Granted I've only had it in for less than a month and have only drove the truck a couple times but seems to be a good fit. Blue tint instead of green. I haven't noticed the tint being in the way, but I have a bench out of a 93 and I shortened the brackets 2 inches. At this point I would buy again. Precision windshield seal
