Will a 350ci motor be a straight swap for inline 6?
Hi guys.
Dumb question probably, but I currently have a 66 SWB stepper with a hi torque inline 6 and manual 3 on the tree. Would I be able to take the inline 6 out and fit a 350 in its place with no modifications? Will it fit the manual 3 speed? Will it fit the existing motor mounts? etc etc. Thanks in advance.

Re: Will a 350ci motor be a straight swap for inline 6?
I swapped out my 230 L-6 for a 350 V-8 without any real issues.
Both motor mounts bolted right up to the 350 and the trans mated perfectly to the 350. There were no crossmember clearance issues at all. I am still using my L-6 clutch pivot linkage assembly. Greg.

The L6 mechanical clutch uses a Zbar that mounts to a bracket that comes off the side of the engine block. Your V8 might not have a place for that bracket to mount, so keep that in mind. As far as the V8 swap goes, it is one of the most common modifications for these trucks and a quick search in the FAQ section or the build thread section should get you the details required for any questions. Good luck. For me, I'm staying with my half dozen.

230-250 six has the same mount location as a small block. The 292 is the only odd ball on the motor mounts. Passenger sits forward a few inches. A transmission from a 230 six will bolt up to a 454 they are all the same.

Thanks for the answers guys. I should've said that my motor is a 250 inline 6.
