59 gmc c4 suspension swap with abs??
Ok so I just got my 59 gmc home today and have had front and rear c4 suspension from an 86 vet I had got for parts in trade for some work and its just sitting around. Anyway I was trying to c if anyone ever used the ABS from the corvette in conjunction with suspension also recommendations for what kit to use for mounting suspension and why. I was not able to find any info about ABS. My plans are to use pickup as daily driver down the road, also as it was made for as a pickup so I had thought of putting airbags on it so I could have it a little lower it I wanted or adjust for a load of whatever might be in the bed. This is all still a ways off pipe dreams for now as money is always tight cause I was medically retired from US Army. Only reason I even have pickup is it was so cheap and I sold some things to get the extra money! Ok sorry for my ramblings any help here would be great.
Thanks in advance! |

Welcome.
Sounds like a nice project. Sorry I can't help on the ABS. There are a few companies that make kits for the vette suspension to be used in these trucks if you google it. Kim |

For vette mounting kits, check out www.progressiveautomotive.com and www.flatout-engineering.com. My guess is that you would have to use the computers from the vette in order to use the ABS. Everything would have to be swapped out from the vette I think. I'm installing C4 components as well but not the ABS.

Doubt the ABS is really viable as a swap in type thing. However, you can certainly run the Vette stuff without the ABS. I am. I have a 2nd Gen Camaro/Firebird front sub and an 86 Vette rear. I'm actually still using the stock 57 master cylinder although an upgrade is currently in the works.

You would need the ABS computer, pump / actuator and valve box as well as the sensors. The actuator / valve assemblies (some are two parts, some are one) can be a PITA to bleed.
I'd go with an adjustable proportioning valve & a dual-pot master cylinder, call it good enough. I've never heard of an ABS retrofit. No reason you couldn't, but I don't expect it would be real easy either.
